BREAST CANCER AWARENESS
My current body of work is a contemplation and rumination of different moments in time throughout my journey with breast cancer. It's common now for someone to say that they have heard of the movement of “Breast cancer awareness."
How aware are you?
Each work of art is my attempt to explain what I was going through at that moment in time in a visual way that I couldn’t have shared otherwise. I want to make the ravages of this disease more visible.
I have used modes including photography, drawing, abstract, contemporary painting, expressionism, digital reproduction, and a handcrafted bust sculpture.
My media ranges from pencil and watercolor to thick textured acrylic paint, photography, mixed media collage, and relief art.
I've tried to dive into my questions and emotions with the help of talk therapy and medications to understand everything that Breast Cancer, through the pandemic, has forced me to face on my own, with no understanding of what to expect until it was upon me. The figures in the works are symbolic for every woman across the globe who has heard the words that feel like a death sentence; “you have breast cancer."
